What is HIMMA's abaya size chart?

HIMMA's abaya size chart runs from XS to XL and lists the measurements of the abaya itself, not of the body, in inches. This makes it easy to compare with an abaya you already own and love.

The bust figure is taken across the abaya laid flat, from one armpit to the other, so it is half the garment's full chest. An abaya with a 24-inch bust measures 48 inches all the way around. Length is not part of the chart, because it is made to measure on every abaya; our abaya length guide explains how to measure it.

How do you choose between two sizes?

When you fall between two sizes, let the shoulder decide first, then consider how you like the abaya to drape. Shoulders sit on the frame of the body and set the whole line of the garment, while the body of an abaya is designed to fall with ease.

• Choose the smaller size if your shoulders are narrow and you prefer a neater, more tailored line.
• Choose the larger size if you like a relaxed, flowing drape, wear layers underneath, or want more ease across the back for long days, whether at work in Dubai or travelling across the GCC.
• Consider the fabric. A fluid satin crepe, as in Signature Mauve, falls closer to the body, while a structured, fully lined premium crepe such as 24FW Haze holds its own shape.

How do you measure an abaya you already own?

The most reliable way to find your size is to measure an abaya that already fits you well, laid flat on a table or bed with the front facing up and the fabric smoothed out.

1. Bust: measure straight across from one armpit seam to the other.
2. Shoulder: measure across the back from one shoulder seam to the other.
3. Sleeve: measure from the top of the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve.
4. Armhole: measure along the armhole seam, from the top of the shoulder to the underarm.

Compare the first three figures with the chart above. If they match one size closely, order that size. If they sit clearly outside the chart, a custom size is the better choice.

When should you choose a custom size?

Choose Custom when your favourite abaya does not match any size on the chart, for example a broader shoulder with a slimmer bust, or longer arms than the standard sleeve allows.

With the custom option, you give HIMMA four measurements in inches, taken from an abaya that fits you well, laid flat:

• Bust
• Shoulder
• Sleeve, from the shoulder to the end
• Armhole

What size is the white inner dress?

The optional white inner dress is made in the same size and length as the abaya it accompanies, so you do not need to take any extra measurements. It is an add-on of AED 99 per abaya.
